Alexander A. Maximov is a Russian-American scientist known for his pioneering work in the field of stem cell research. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of how stem cells develop and differentiate into various types of cells in the body. His research has focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate stem cell proliferation and differentiation, and has led to the identification of new stem cell markers and the development of new techniques for isolating and culturing stem cells. Maximov's work in this area has been instrumental in advancing the field of regenerative medicine, which aims to use stem cells to replace or repair damaged or diseased tissue. Maximov’s discoveries are not well known in the US to an average person. Consequently, a San Diego based stem cell biomedical company contacted Alisa to commission a portrait of Alexander Maximov to display in their main conference room, to bring about the attention to the forgotten “founding father” of stem cells. The microscope in the painting is the original microscope Maximov used during his studies, as it is located in a museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, along with many of Maximov’s personal and professional items. Accurately portraying the details of the historical subjects is of the utmost importance to Alisa. She presented the finished portrait to the company in front of all staff signifying the recognition of Maximov’s historical contributions to the field of stem cells.
